Our Story

I am a birth companion and postpartum doula who provides compassionate and grounded care for your journey.

I came to birth work through my background in community organizing in immigration justice and reproductive justice spaces in my home state of Texas. I carry deep lessons from movement work and believe strongly in supporting people in accessing freedom, autonomy, and collective care through pregnancy and into the postpartum period.

As a queer latina, I recognize and uplift the many ways that our communities create family. Queer and trans families are sacred in this world, and deserve to be held with sweetness and care. I believe in supporting the whole person - meeting people where they are with an open heart and respect for each individual’s needs and desires.

Pregnancy and the postpartum period are times of huge shifts and transition, and can often bring up unexpected thoughts and emotions. I have experience working in the perinatal mental health field in NYC, and aim to support people experiencing any kind of perinatal mental health concern, including depression and anxiety, as fully as possible, including helping navigate connection with resources, support groups and mental health care options.

In my work supporting birthing people, I incorporate movement, breath, and grounding. I guide people through navigating decision-making and accessing information and resources.

I am always learning and growing alongside those I support. My role is not to have all the answers - rather to help my clients navigate the process and decision-making from an informed and grounded place. I am honored to have a deep mentorship network of experienced birth workers that I rely on in my own practice. Care is collective - and I’m honored to bring loving attentive detail and intention to working with families in this way.

Testimonials:

There isn’t enough time nor space for us to express our feeling of gratitude for Maya blessing us with her amazing energy and knowledge during this new time! She was always fully present when meeting with us, easily accessible during any time I needed her, and most of all helped us build and assure our confidence in our ability to bring about this new life. I loved the many options Maya provided for labor support. We ended up using a special oil that not only calmed the senses but the body as well during labor. She also was very hands on at the perfect time after my son was born and always made me feel comfortable with her ability to care for him. Overall, I most loved that even with all her knowledge and support she allowed my partner and I to go along in the journey that suited us best which ended up being just us two in our own world but knowing she was always there close by watching over and ready to assist at any moment

Maya gave me so much comfort, confidence, advice, and peace during those two last months of my pregnancy and during that big day. I could not have done what I did if it wasn’t for Maya, truly. Something specific I remember is that while EVERYONE was sleeping (including my midwives) during my laboring, Maya was there, letting me hug her through my contractions. I needed that comfort. I needed for someone to tell me I was doing good, and giving me confidence. She was there until my baby was born, and even took some lovely pictures!!
