Our Story

Hi, my name is

Courtney McClain (she/her)

I am a Bronx based Full Spectrum doula. My work as a doula is grounded in the idea that all birthing people deserve equity, care and autonomy throughout their birthing experience and especially during the postpartum period. My goal is to work closely with families, helping to support their unique and personal visions of birth and to also be a source of care and support throughout the postpartum period.

I come to doula work with 7 years of experience teaching health education in NYC public schools. This experience allowed my love of mental/emotional, and reproductive health to thrive. I went on to obtain my M.S, Ed in Counseling Education as a way to help destigmatize mental health in my community while also making that care approachable and accessible. I bring all of this into my doula work with clients-- prioritizing their mental wellness and providing tools and resources for those around them to do the same.

I love community and working closely with those in the community is what fuels my work. I am a doula who listens, loves exploration, is flexible and cares wholeheartedly about supporting those who have visions of a healthy, safe and autonomous birth. I also enjoy centering the birthing person throughout the postpartum period by holding space for complex emotions, while providing affirmation and hands-on support.

Outside of doula work I’m a woman who loves to laugh, cook, color, read and put together LEGO sets

I look forward to working with you and providing the kind of support you want and need.

Testimonials:

As a first time mom, I had many questions and concerns about childbirth. I also wanted to ensure that my wants and needs were met throughout the process. Courtney assisted with all of that. Courtney was able to help me through the process so that I was confident in my ability to birth my baby the way I wanted. Throughout delivery Courtney was especially helpful and worked well with my husband and I to get through the painful process and ensure that the hospital followed my birth plan. I am grateful for Courtney who kept motivating me throughout my pregnancy and labor especially in moments where I felt like giving up. Courtney is wonderful and I would recommend her to anyone who is expecting a baby and who wants to feel heard and understood. She is amazing

Words that come to mind when I think of Courtney: Happy, friendly, loyal, efficient, punctual, kind, loving, spicy, assertive to name a few. When we hired Courtney we did not know her. But her energy and knowledge for births and postpartum care was unmatched. Trusting her came easy. We hired Courtney for Postpartum overnight care and she was the permission I needed to rest. To rest and know that my baby was being care for as if she was me. To rest knowing my baby was safe. I am so happy that we hired her and we would do it again over and over again. I tell EVERYONE about her
and her services. She is worth every dollar. If you are thinking about hiring her STOP THINKING and DO IT!

Courtney has been an amazing support during my pregnancy, birth, and postpartum to myself, my husband, and our newborn. She is a very knowledgeable, compassionate, and open person. She makes herself available to you and answers your questions no matter how big or small the ask is. Courtney posed questions to us to really help us to make a plan for the birth of our child and begin to think about our needs postpartum. When the plan had to shift, she was there to help us navigate and gave us suggestions of questions to ask of our providers. Courtney has been an amazing part of our journey into parenthood and we are forever grateful to her.
