Our Story

Hi, my name is

Chatequa ‘Cam’Campbell (she/her)

I am a Brooklyn based birth and postpartum doula. The journey to parenthood can be many things—intense, transformational, and full of beauty. As your doula, I seek to support you throughout your pregnancy by working alongside you to ensure that you are well informed, prepared, and confident in making your own decisions. This looks like me providing continuous emotional, physical, and informational support to you during the prenatal and postpartum period.

My intention for you is that you feel seen, safe, supported, & educated throughout your journey.  With you I create a space that is warm, safe, calming, and loving so that you can show up as your authentic self. I take my cues from you and work with you to help your birth and postpartum goals come to fruition. As a doula, my practice is hands-on, evidence-based, and heart-led. I utilize acupressure, massage, breathwork, movement, essential oils and other comforting techniques.

Before coming to birthwork, I was an Early Childhood Special Educator. I was an educator in the classroom for 13 years and it was there that my love for all things young children, babies, and supporting families flourished. It brought me great joy to watch my students and their families evolve throughout the course of the school year and subsequent years to follow. I think one the GREATEST GIFTS to the planet are children; they fill us with joy & wonder. Although I loved teaching in the school setting, I always found myself imagining the different ways that I could partner and support families. This led me to the path of birth work; now I support the family structure during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

Outside of doula work, I enjoy traveling and experiencing different cultural traditions. I love trying new things like candle making, collaging, rock climbing, skydiving, etc. I am a people person and enjoy being in great company! I enjoy embracing my inner child and relishing in the simple pleasures and joys of life. I love to laugh and to go on walks. If someone could describe my aura, they’d most likely describe me as sunshine yellow.

I am grateful to have found my way to supporting families and communities through the lens of doula. I look forward to partnering with you!

Testimonials

Chatequa Campbell was [the] doula for the birth of my daughter’s first baby. Her participation in the whole process was priceless.

Chatequa, called Cam, accompanied my daughter every step of the way, and in her very quiet strong demeanor made sure my daughter received the care she needed, from kneading and massaging her back, to advocating for her partner, to helping my daughter with the coming nursing process. Most importantly she managed the emotional highs and lows we all went through, with grace and aplomb.

Things have certainly changed since I gave birth to my daughter as reflected on Sesame Street in 1988. One of those changes (new to me anyway) was the use of a doula. If you need one, I recommend Chatequa Campbell.

Chatequa has been a lifesaver in our family. She is truly both sunshine and CALM when you need it most. I first connected with Chatequa in August of last year (2022) when my daughter was just around a week old, and we also had a two (now 3 year old) son. She instantly was what we needed to help adjust as a family at such a sensitive time.

Chatequa is trustworthy, patient, reliable and communicative. She is also incredibly knowledgeable. Newborns, feeding, breastfeeding – she knows it all and can provide you with information in a gentle way when it is needed. (She is also very bright beyond newborn care, as she is highly educated and had a career in education prior to becoming a doula).

Now, picture this: a 2-year-old potty-training tornado of energy, a brand-new baby who is getting used to life on Earth, and then there’s Chatequa, calmly rocking our daughter, orchestrating tower-building, bottle-time, meal-prep and dishes. She was able to help encourage a growing bond between my kids as siblings, and give me some much needed quiet time to adjust, eat, use the toilet ALONE, etc.

In the midst of baby chaos, she gave me the precious gift of uninterrupted showers (seriously, I’d forgotten how glorious that feels), a chance to brush my hair (a small feat, but a victory nonetheless), and those rare moments to catch my breath and remember that I’m still me.

So, if you’re on the hunt for a doula who brings both a ray of sunshine and the ability to transform chaos into organized fun, look no further than Chatequa. She’s like a lifeline for parents, and we’re beyond lucky to have her as a part of our family’s journey. She still does occasional childcare for us, and we truly love her. My whole family loves her. She is phenomenal.
